Our Values

Being of Afrikan descent holds great honor & complexity. Conscious integration of Afro-Diasporic tradition grounds us in the core values and moral wisdom of our ancestors to guide our effort. These values inspire and infuse our programs informing how we grow our food and what we do with the harvest. They bind us together as a community. And because Afrikan traditions are rooted in our pastoral and agrarian history, exploring the human connection to land, food, and earth is also a powerful doorway of connection to Afrikan practices, rituals, and celebrations.

Our Story

Breaking ground in 2021 as a collective community garden, Orun Field & Family Farm is a small-scale veteran family operation. We strive to produce the highest quality food while providing impactful targeted intergenerational, veteran and community programs. The farm produces an abundance of fresh & vibrant produce from spring/fall basilicas like kale, collards, leeks, & broccoli, to summer favorites: cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, melons, peppers of many varieties, squash, sweet potatoes, eggplant, sunflowers and herbs.
To do this the farm integrates practices of African Diasporic traditions, Afro-ecology, and sustainable agriculture to support self-sustaining sur-thriving communities.

Our Bio

As the leaders of a nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives through sustainable agriculture and holistic wellness, the Thompsons have made it their mission to empower vulnerable communities and amplify the voices of people of African descent. Rooted in a commitment to inclusivity and empowerment, they have championed partnerships with veterans, individuals facing food insecurity, and members of the African Diaspora to create pathways for healing, growth, and self-sufficiency.

CONNECT

We ground and connect people – to themselves, others, and to the earth. This is done by providing farm-based, community building experiences that integrate Afro Diasporic traditions, mindfulness, Afro-ecology, and social action.

VISION

Our vision is a world where vulnerable communities develop ancestral skills and reap the benefits of reconnecting with the land for healing, sustenance, and collective food sovereignty.

MISSION

Our mission is to nourish veteran families and underserved community members through Afro-centric agricultural and community-based experiences.

“An army of sheep led by a lion can defeat an army of lions led by sheep.”
